What is food? "Any nutritious substance that people or animals eat or drink or that plants absorb in order to maintain life and growth." Therefore, any food void of nutrients is not really food but fillers. Examples: fast food, processed foods, white bread, white pasta, enriched foods, foods with chemicals (MSG, Polysorbate 80, etc), soft drinks, and more. Over time, if we continue consuming substances we call "food" that are void of nutrients (not really food, just calories), we are slowly destroying our innate immune system. As time elapses and we age, the toll on our overall health is greater and greater. This compromises our immune system and decreases our ability to fight off disease. However, it's never too late to adopt lifestyle habits that rectify and reverse the course of this demise.
Genesis 1:29 tells us the food God placed on earth optimal for health: "29 And God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food." Interestingly, plant-based diets have been scientifically proven to improve and reverse disease.
A strong, robust immune system is acquired by incorporating nutrient-packed foods into your daily eating. What are nutrient-packed foods? Mainly, organic fruits and vegetables, secondly, whole grains, legumes, raw nuts and seeds. The best way to consume a large variety of produce daily is through juicing organic vegetables and fruit. Juicing is a fairly quick, and simple way to consume the nutrients from large amounts of vegetables and fruit that would otherwise be hard to consume in one sitting. Your immune system is like a bank account. By consistentlymaking deposits by daily consuming nutrient-dense foods, on the day(s) of trouble, when disease hits (viruses, infections, etc.) your body is ready for battle and "the money is in the bank" so-to-speak, available for withdrawal.
Let's practice preventative maintenance, so we are ready for battle instead of waiting until we are hit with disease.
